Persian, Zand Tinned Copper Vessel, ZAND DYNASTY (1751-1794). A dynasty that ruled in Persia (excluding Khorasan) from Shiraz, from the time when Nāder Shah’s (r. 1736-47) successor s, the Afsharids, failed to recover western Persia until the founding of the Quajar dynasty by Āḡā Moḥammad Khan Quajar. Description: 18th century, slightly tapered cylindrical form with rounded base and averted rim, small cartouche (presentation and maker's mark) below multiple floral and geometric bands below broad band of calligraphy at rim, 6-1/2 x 9 in., normal surface wear, excellent condition Provenance: Private Collection of a Washington, D.C., Gentleman For a similar example, see Christie's, April 24, 1990, lot 426.
